I can’t believe it’s already the end of May. How did this happen? Setting aside my disbelief, I want to share all of my May 2026 things.
Before I do that, though, I want to quickly check in. How’s everyone’s Maycember going? Hold on, we’re almost at the end! In the meantime, I hope my list of May 2026 things gives you some tips, recommendations, and a bit of a break from the craziness that is May.
May 2026 Things
Food
We are starting of my May 2026 things with my favorite topic: food! We’ve got some good ones to talk about this month!
Old Standby – Meatball Subs
I sang the praises of spaghetti and meatballs in my April 2026 things post, and for good reason. But what I didn’t share is that we often use the leftover meatballs in another old standby dinner – meatball subs. Just take your leftover meatballs in sauce, scoop a few into a sub roll, top with a slice of mozzarella or provolone cheese, and stick in a 375°F oven until the bread gets toasty and the cheese gets ooey gooey. This is easily in my son’s top 5 favorite meals. If your kids like spaghetti and meatballs, give meatball subs a shot with your leftovers!
Favorite New Recipe – Enchilada Meatloaf
I like to jazz up meatloaf every once in a while. My kids generally eat meatloaf, so I tend to use it as a vehicle to introduce new flavors or ingredients. This month, I tried a mash up of meatloaf and enchiladas (two things my kids like) to great success. My daughter was even disappointed when we didn’t eat the enchilada meatloaf leftovers again the very next day. If you have meatloaf lovers in your family, don’t skip this one!
Biggest Food Fail – Pimento Quiche
This month’s biggest food fail took me completely by surprise. Why? Because I’ve made pimento quiche before to a great reception from all my family members. This month when I made it for the Kentucky Derby, everyone essentially refused to eat it. Everyone except me. I loved it and was happy to eat leftovers for lunch all week. Their loss was my gain.
Dessert – Flag Cake
A flag cake is a Memorial Day dessert staple. It will probably be my May dessert every year for the rest of my life (at least while I have kids at home). It’s an easy, festive dessert that everybody loves. If a flag cake didn’t make it on your list of May 2026 things, make sure to add it to your 4th of July line-up!
Breakfast – Baked Oatmeal
Baked oatmeal is one of my family’s favorite weekend breakfasts. Baked oatmeal is so easy to throw together, and you can switch up the flavors to get a totally different spin every week. It’s super hearty and makes a ton, so it’s great to heat up for breakfast during the week to make getting out the door a little bit easier. This month, I made strawberry, mixed berry, and blueberry baked oatmeal (my kids are on a berry kick), but the flavor options are truly endless!
Books
I have officially hit a wall with my reading journey this year. Ugh, I didn’t want to say that this year. I was on a wave and riding it high! Despite not being up to snuff when comparing my reading-related May 2026 things to the previous months of this year, I still have some books to share.
Best Physical Book – Lessons in Chemistry
I have heard people rave about Lessons in Chemistry by Bonnie Garmus for years, but I never found myself drawn to it. The story centers around a female chemist (I also happen to be a female chemist), so maybe I thought it would be too on the nose? Who knows. What I do know is that I was a fool to wait. If you’re a woman, you need to read this book. I can tell I’ll be thinking about this one for a long time.
Not My Favorite Book – The Last Anniversary
You guys, I can’t believe I’m saying this, but I didn’t like a Liane Moriarty book. Liane Moriarty is usually an automatic purchase author for me, so it really threw me for a loop when I read The Last Anniversary this month and could not get into it. I just found it a bit boring, a bit weird, and a bit pointless. The twist at the very end (like the last page of the book) was amazing, but other than that, this book is forgettable. There are so many better Liane Moriarty books to read instead.
Best Audiobook – Die with Zero
Although I didn’t read with my eyes much this month, I read with my ears a ton. I actually had quite a few audiobooks from which to choose as the best of May 2026. Ultimately, I decided that Die with Zero by Bill Perkins may not have been the most entertaining audiobook or the most well-written audiobook I read this month, it earned the title of the best audiobook because it was so impactful. I dare you to read this book and not get a shift in your perspective. And you need this perspective shift, trust me!
TV
I did have a little bit of TV time in May 2026, and I spent it watching one season of one show. My TV-related May 2026 thing is niche, so if you’re not interested, skip to my clothes recommendations below.
Emily in Paris
Y’all, I almost gave up on Emily in Paris. Season 4 was such ridiculous drivel that I really dragged my feet to watch Season 5. I finally decided to get it over with, and I’m actually glad I finally bit the bullet. Season 5 was much better than Season 4. The show got a little bit of life back when it relocated to Italy for a few episodes. If you haven’t watched Season 5 yet because you were worried it would be as bad as Season 4, give it a shot. I think you’ll like it!
Clothing
Even though our weather hasn’t been consistently warm yet, my clothing-related May 2026 things scream summer. Wishful thinking, perhaps?
White t-shirt
Every woman I know is on a constant mission to find the perfect white t-shirt. I’m not saying that I’m claiming victory, but I think I’m close. On a whim, I picked up a Free Assembly Cotton Cropped Boxy Tee in store at Walmart when I was doing my normal grocery shopping a few weeks ago. I am so glad I did! It’s thick, but not too thick, the perfect length, and just roomy enough to be comfortable. Add to cart now, ladies. At only $8, you can’t afford not to.
Denim shorts
If you’re read any of my fashion content over the years, you know I love a good pair of denim shorts. My highlight from May 2026 isn’t just any pair of denim shorts, though. On that same Walmart trip, I spotted these adorable Time and Tru Drapey Utility Shorts. They are now my favorite shorts. I’m even wearing them today! With a perfect inseam length, comfy drawstring waist, and actually useful pockets, what’s not to like?
Birkenstocks
I have made no secret of my love affair with my Birkenstock Arizona sandals. When the weather is warm enough, I wear them pretty much every day. They are truly a wardrobe staple. If you don’t have a pair, get yourself a pair ASAP.
Products
Ah, the random May 2026 things that don’t fit into any other category! This actually might be my favorite section of this blog post to write every month. There isn’t anything tying these items together, but they’re real gems that I am so excited to share with you!
Denture tabs
I am like most Millennials in that I sleep with a mouth guard to prevent nighttime teeth grinding. Seriously, why is our generation so horrible on our teeth while we sleep? Anyway, if you sleep with a mouth guard you know that these things get gross and need to be cleaned all the time. I’ve tried several cleaning methods, but none works better than good old fashioned denture tabs. They’re cheap, easy to use, and get the job done. Try them for all your dental device cleaning needs!
Feeding Littles app
I have followed Feeding Littles on Instagram for many years – ever since my son was just starting to eat solid foods 6 years ago. Megan shares really helpful tips without any of the shame that most parenting Instagram accounts pour on their content, so I’ve always been happy to support her. The latest product in their arsenal is a meal planning/recipe saving/grocery list app and I love it! If you’re looking for a way to make feeding your family just a little easier, download it and give it a try!
Mineral body sunscreen
The sun has started to come out, so that means it’s time to slather everyone with sunscreen before you leave the house. If you have a family member with a skin disease like eczema, this is easier said than done because most sunscreens really aggravate sensitive skin. We have found that Blue Lizard is the only sunscreen that doesn’t cause irritation. You need to rub it in really well to avoid that classic zinc look, but it’s worth it to avoid a sunburn and a chemical burn!
Experiences
It’s Maycember, so you know it was a busy month. I’ll stick to the highlights and share only the biggest May 2026 things. Driving kids here, there, and everywhere will not be covered.
STAR Night
We attended our family’s first ever STAR Night, which is what our local school district calls portfolio night. It is an opportunity for families to come into the school and see what their students have been up to all school year. We were so excited to see how much our son has learned in Kindergarten and he was so excited to show us his work. Now that STAR Night has passed, it’s basically the end of the school year. It’s so hard to believe!
Mother’s Day
Mother’s Day isn’t my favorite day of the year, but we had a nice one this year. It was an interesting day, for sure. We experienced all four seasons on Mother’s Day. It started cold, turned drizzly, the sun came out, and then it got nice and warm. My niece got croup, so we hosted breakfast at the last minute and ended up with a broken TV. We topped off the day with a draft beer (one of my favorite things) and a meal I didn’t have to prepare or clean up. It didn’t suck!
Barnyard Beer Benefit
Our local community farm has a benefit each year on Memorial Day weekend where they bring in beer and food and throw a party in a field. I’ve eyed it for years, but never went. Until this year, when our neighbors (who are becoming great friends) invited us to go with them. The day was a washout, so the cute outfit went out the window, but we had a ball! I can’t wait to go again next year!
Kid stuff
If you don’t have young kids, you can skip my kid-related May 2026 things. But if you do have kids at home, read on for some great recommendations!
Sidewalk chalk
Sidewalk chalk is a classic childhood staple. You probably have a huge pile of it in your garage. We’ve certainly always had a stash since our oldest was just a tiny tot. It’s always been a great outdoor activity to do when the weather is nice, but I have a newfound appreciation for it lately. My son wants to play all the sports all the time, and insists I play with him, but my daughter doesn’t always want to play whatever sport her brother is into that moment. But she’s always down to draw with sidewalk chalk. It keeps her happily entertained while I play catch with my son for 16 hours, and for that I am eternally grateful.
Unicorn light
My sister got my daughter a unicorn nightlight for her birthday last month, and we are all in love with it. You can choose the color of the light and the intensity of the light, and it has a built-in 30-minute timer. What makes this extra fun is that all selections are made by whacking the unicorn on the horn. This light is a great way to inject some fun into bedtime!
Napkins
A toddler essential that I continue to use every day, multiple times a day is the bucket of baby washcloths that we use as napkins. Kids are messy! If you’re relying on paper towels or wipes to clean them, you’ll be going through these items at an alarming rate. Using cheap baby washcloths as cloth napkins has been such a great hack that I stumbled upon that I want every other mom to know about. If you’re not using napkins with your kids at the dinner table, it’s time to start!
