Are you looking to update your wardrobe for the summer? Get yourself some gauze clothing and you’ll be set!
When you were in your teens and 20s, summer was the time to express yourself through fashion. Summer was your chance to bare some skin, wear bright colors, and just shine.
As you get older, your fashion priorities may change, but you can still have fun with your clothes in the summer. You’re just looking for different things in your summer clothes than you were before kids. Personally, I’m prioritizing comfort, breathability, versatility, and ease in my summer clothes. But I also want to look good and put-together and feel good too!
My secret for crushing summer fashion in middle age is gauze clothing. It truly ticks all my boxes. If you’re looking to add a few pieces of powerhouse summer clothes to your wardrobe, don’t sleep on gauze clothing!
Comfort
I dare you to find something more comfortable than double-cloth gauze clothing. It’s just so soft! If you want to feel like you’re wearing your pajamas but look like you’re a lady who lunches, gauze clothing is for you!
Breathability
It gets so hot in the summer where I live, and I don’t even live in Florida any more, where it gets hotter than the surface of the sun. If you live in a place that gets hot and humid in the summer months, you know that your summer clothes need to breathe. That means natural fibers, people!
Well, guess what? Gauze clothing is 100% cotton and 100% breathable. No trapped sweat when you’re wearing gauze this summer. You’re more comfortable and you don’t stink!
Versatility
In my current stage of life, I need clothes that do double- and triple-duty. I just don’t have time to keep up with a massive wardrobe of clothes that I can wear only in certain circumstances. I need versatility!
Lucky for us, gauze clothing checks the versatility box too! You can take gauze clothing from the beach to date night when you choose the right pieces and add the right accessories. Gauze clothing looks great with a pair of flip flops and your hair in a bun and equally great with a pair of elevated sandals and some nice jewelry. It’s a true fashion chameleon!
Ease
My favorite thing about gauze clothing in the summer is just how easy it is to wear. It is truly wash (and dry!) and go. Gauze clothing has a natural texture to it, so you don’t need to iron it to perfect smoothness. It doesn’t really crease, but crinkles instead, so you don’t look like you’ve rolled right out of bed. You look like you’re wearing gauze and looking chic and comfy.
Have I convinced you that you need gauze clothing in your life this summer yet? I sure hope so! If I have, let’s talk more about just how you can incorporate gauze clothing into your summer wardrobe.

Shirts
By far my favorite and most common way to wear gauze is as a shirt. And, lucky for us, there are so many gauze shirt options available, you’ll definitely find a cut, fit, and color for you!
If you’re into a button-front style, you can find both short- and long-sleeve options in many stores. I love the color options that are available for this Gap Factory long-sleeve gauze shirt if you’re in the market for a long-sleeve option. If you’re looking for a short-sleeve button front option, I highly recommend that you head to your local T.J. Maxx or Marshall’s. I have hit the jackpot there lately. My favorite has been from a brand called Lola River.

If you’re into a more feminine short-sleeve cut, look for a flutter-sleeve. My favorite more feminine gauze shirt is a last-season gem from beachlunchlounge (pictured below), but Old Navy has a flutter-sleeve option they currently have available that gives the same vibe.

You can get sleeveless gauze options too, if that’s more your speed. Kohl’s has a great option.
If you don’t want to go all-in on gauze yet, why not dip your toe into gauze with a mixed media shirt that uses gauze sleeves or panels? I have a few of these partly-gauze shirts and love them. This puff-sleeve number is fantastic, as is this v-neck option.

Shorts
If you want comfy, breezy, put-together shorts that you can wear just about anywhere, you need some gauze shorts. Wear them as a set with a matching gauze top or just with a plain white t-shirt or tank top and you’ve got a stellar summer outfit.

Pants
If you’re not a shorts-loving gal in the summertime (I am), gauze pants are a great alternative. They’ll keep you just as cool as shorts and give you an added layer of sun protection. That sounds like a good option to me!
If you’re in the market for some gauze pants, you’re in luck. There are so many good options available! Beachlunchlounge of course makes a great pair, as do Gap Factory and Kohl’s. Lots of brands are diving into the gauze pants trend this season, though, so just keep your eyes out!
Dresses
Are you more of a dress girl? You’ve got great gauze clothing options too! Gauze is super flowy and breathable so it makes a great dress. Whether you’re on the lookout for a mini, midi, or maxi dress, there is a gauze option for you!
I have and love this midi dress. It is so comfortable and flattering! If you’d rather something with a tad more length, I love the look of the Quince Gauze Tiered Maxi Dress. I’ve been hemming and hawing over whether to purchase it for months. I might be losing my battle to exercise restraint! I mean come on, the wild cherry color would be perfect for the 4th of July! If you prefer something a little shorter, this split-neck dress is perfect as a regular dress or a beach cover-up!

Romper/Jumpsuit
If you like the ease of a one-piece outfit, but you’re afraid of an errant gust of wind, consider a romper (shorts) or jumpsuit (pants). I really can’t think of a material that works better than gauze as a romper or jumpsuit. The material just works for these styles.
I’ve always been a little leery of rompers and jumpsuits for grown-ups (they’ve always been my favorite baby outfits, though), but I’ve found both a romper and a jumpsuit that have made me rethink my previous opinions. First up, this romper from Old Navy was my entrée into the one-piece number. It’s so easy but looks so great! The perfect mom weekend outfit! Once I tried and loved the romper, I saw this jumpsuit and had to try it. Another winner for one-piece gauze clothing, but size down for a perfect fit!

These aren’t the only great gauze clothing options out there. You almost can’t go wrong. If none of these specific pieces tickle your toes, try browsing a few retailers that carry gauze clothing in the summer. I’ve seen great options at Gap (and Gap Factory), Old Navy, Kohl’s Nordstrom, Walmart, Loft Outlet, Quince, and T.J. Maxx/Marshall’s. Happy shopping!
