Are you having trouble deciding what to get your kids for Christmas this year? If you have a six-year-old boy or a three-year-old girl, I might be able to help. Here’s what I’m getting my kids for Christmas this year.
I can’t believe this is my third annual What I’m Getting My Kids for Christmas post. I started this tradition in 2023 when my son was newly 4 and my daughter was 1. They were 5 and 2 in 2024, and now they’re 6 and 3. I have always found it extremely helpful to see what other people are getting their kids for Christmas to help give me ideas for what to get my kids. My hope is that my list of what I’m getting my kids for Christmas will help other stressed out, stretched thin, exhausted parents make gift-giving a little bit easier.
My Kids
Like I said, I have a 6-year-old son and a 3-year-old daughter.
The 6-year-old boy is super obsessed with all things sports. He also has a December birthday, so he gets lots of gifts this time of the year. I’m going to include some of what he’s getting for his birthday because why not share more gift ideas? That means there are more gift ideas for a 6-year-old boy on this list. I don’t love him more, I just timed his birth poorly.
The 3-year-old girl is much harder to buy gifts for at this stage. Because she’s the second kid, we have most (all?) of the big-ticket items that would normally be on gift lists for 3-year-olds. As she’s developed interests over the last year, gifting has gotten a little bit easier, but she’s still my harder kid.
Both kids still believe in the magic of Santa Claus, so one gift per kid on this list will be from St. Nick.
What I’m Getting My Kids for Christmas 2025
6-year-old boy
This kid would rather be playing sports than doing literally anything else. The theme of most of his gifts is sports. I imagine it will be until I die.
Hockey stick
My son started playing ice hockey last Fall, and he keeps falling more in love with the sport every day. For the last year, he’s been playing with a straight stick, but he really wanted a left-handed stick (he swings sports implements with his left hand, for some unknown reason) as he’s starting to play actual games. Hockey sticks are expensive, so my main criteria for the stick we purchased for his birthday was cost and his was color. We landed on a Bauer that fit the bill.
Hockey tickets
We are doing a repeat gift this year! My son was so impressed with the gift of tickets to see an NHL game last Christmas that we are doing it again this year. Bonus: this gift adds no junk to my house!
Hockey water bottle
If you know my son, or you’ve read the previous installments in this blog post series, you won’t be surprised to find a third hockey-related gift on his list. This gift is a smaller ticket item but will be no less exciting for my son to receive. I am gifting him a hockey water bottle with a long straw so he can take a drink with his cage on. He’s going to love it!
Games
When my son isn’t playing sports, he wants to be playing games. Board games and card games have both been winners lately, so we’re going to expand his collection this holiday season.
Connect 4
Anytime we go somewhere as a family and there is one of those giant Connect 4 games available, I know we’re going to be there a while. My son just loves to play Connect 4! At first, he was terrible, but now he’s learning the strategy behind the game, so it’s actually fun to play with him. Because we aren’t at places with giant Connect 4 often, we’re getting him the at-home version so he can play whenever he wants.
Guess in 10
Another thing you should know about my son is that he never stops asking questions. I’m hoping to direct that curiosity toward a game with Guess in 10. This game involves asking questions to guess what animal is on the card. I think he’ll love it!
Telescope
For a few years now, my son has been into all things space. He loves to read his space facts books and ask all the questions about space that pop into his head. He even has space sheets! It seems as if his interest in space isn’t waning, because he has asked for a telescope for Christmas this year. We are starting him small in the telescope world with a lunar telescope designed especially for kids. If he’s super into it, we can upgrade his tools later.
Baseball bat
My son and my nephew both played tee-ball this past Spring and really enjoyed it. Because we weren’t sure how baseball was going to go, my brother-in-law bought a bat and both boys used it. Because baseball was a success, we’re gifting my son with a bat of his own this Christmas.
Slippers
Kids’ feet grow way too fast. Because of this fact of nature, slippers are an annual Christmas gift for both kids. This dog pair from L.L. Bean is adorable!
Shower scrubber
Over the last year, my son has transitioned to showering independently pretty much exclusively. Although that’s a great thing for him developmentally, it means he’s showering in his own shower now so he can’t use his dad’s shower scrubber. He’s bummed about being stuck with a regular washcloth in his shower. He’ll be stoked to get a shower scrubber of his very own.
Brain Quest
I loved the Brain Quest cards when I was growing up. I’m excited to introduce my son to the franchise this Christmas with the Kindergarten set.
3-year-old girl
Like I said, gifts for my daughter are much harder to nail down. Some of the items on this list will knock it out of the park. Others I’m not so sure.
Big girl bed
Our big gift for our big girl this year is going to be a big girl bed. Honestly, this is largely for self-preservation. She’s been having trouble staying in bed at bedtime and she often wakes up in the middle of the night because she lost her blankets. Mama is losing sleep over this. We are hopeful that a big girl bed will help her resolve her nighttime issues. At least she shouldn’t lose all her blankets anymore.
My sister-in-law recently upgraded my niece’s bed (she’s three months older than my daughter) and raves about the SynthoSpace mattress. As for bedding, my girl loves purple and unicorns, so this purple cotton unicorn number should make her squeal with delight!
Disney on Ice
We are going through a stage with my daughter that we never went through with my son: Disney obsession. My girl is obsessed with Encanto (she was Mirabel for Halloween), loves Minnie Mouse, adores the Frozen franchise, and still wants to be Cinderella when she grows up. She’s also starting to ice skate, so Disney on Ice tickets should be her dream present. Fingers crossed!
Yoto cards
I’ve mentioned before in my birthday gift ideas for 3-year-olds, screen-free travel activities, and quiet time activities for preschoolers posts that we love the Yoto mini in my house. We have been listening to the same cards for a few years now, so it’s about time for some new ones. And new ones that align more with my daughter’s interests. Specifically, I’m going with the Disney Princess Storybook Collection card and the Encanto music card. Maybe she’ll agree to watch something other than Encanto Live at the Hollywood Bowl come January.
Encanto items
Speaking of Encanto, the Encanto themed gifts won’t stop there. She’s getting a Mirabel plush, a sisters sweatshirt, and a LEGO set of Casita. I’m going all-in on Encanto this Christmas.
Barbie
The time has come for me to buy my daughter her first Barbie. I have so many memories of playing Barbies as a young girl, so I can’t wait to play Barbies with her. I’m just hoping my son doesn’t decapitate her.
Easel
One of the only things that will occupy my 3-year-old daughter’s attention for any length of time is the little tabletop easel we got my son when he was about 2. Unfortunately, because we’ve had it so long, it looks like it’s been through the wars. The chalkboard is permanently gray and the dry erase board is a scratched-up mess. So, for Christmas, she’s getting an upgrade to the Melissa and Doug Standing Art Easel. Hopefully she has many hours of fun ahead of her with this easel.
