It’s the end of the month! You know what that means. Here are all of my most memorable March things.

I’m really enjoying keeping track of my monthly things to share with you. That continued in March for sure. I have a lot of March things to share, so strap in! I hope my list of March things gives you a bit of inspiration.

Food

If you haven’t already figured it out, I really like food. It makes up a huge piece of my life. I like to eat and to cook, and to share what I’m eating and cooking with you!

Old Standby – Homemade Chicken Fingers

If you’ve been reading Sara in Season for any length of time, it might surprise you to see that a chicken recipe makes the list of favorites this month. My 5-year-old has notoriously been anti-chicken for quite some time now. But we may be turning a corner! We went to a hockey game recently and he asked for chicken fingers while we were there. Based on that request, I took another shot at homemade chicken fingers at home. He devoured them! I made a big family-sized pack worth of chicken fingers hoping that I could freeze some for a rainy day. That didn’t happen because he ate them three nights that week. I’m hoping this is the start of getting him to eat chicken more regularly.

Favorite New Recipe – Lemon Rosemary Meatballs

Guys, it’s another chicken recipe! I wasn’t as surprised that my 5-year-old ate these lemon rosemary meatballs because he likes meatballs and they aren’t obviously chicken. But both kids ate way more of these meatballs that I was anticipating. They willingly ate them the night I made them and didn’t turn their noses up at leftovers a few days later. If you have meatball-loving kids, give these a try!

Biggest Food Fail – Leftovers

My kids didn’t love every meal I made in March, but they turned their noses up far more at leftovers than at any fresh meal I made this month. Look, my kids have never loved leftovers. They get that particular trait from their Pap. But this month, leftovers were a bigger fight than normal. Don’t get me wrong, we still ate leftovers. I’m not going to waste food. My kids just weren’t happy about it, making leftovers one of their least favorite March things.

Dessert – Key Lime Pie

As you may have read, my husband and I took a quick adults-only trip to the Florida Keys in February to celebrate a milestone birthday. While we were there, we ate a lot of key lime pie. Why? When in Rome and all that, but more importantly, it’s my favorite dessert and it’s hard to find a good one outside the state of Florida. And although I stand by that statement, a homemade version is better than nothing when I don’t get home for a while. My favorite homemade version that I’ve tried is from Sally’s Baking Addiction, but I use a regular Graham cracker crust instead of the macadamia nut crust.

Breakfast – Greek yogurt & cereal

One of the March things that came as a surprise was my breakfast of choice. I took it all the way back to my college days and I’m glad I did. When I was in college, I ate Greek yogurt and cereal every single morning. It was easy to make, filling, relatively healthy. Those things remain true now, so I tried it again. And now I’m hooked. My favorite combination is the flavored Greek yogurt from Trader Joe’s and Honey Bunches of Oats with Almonds. If you haven’t tried this in a while, give it a go!

Books

Just like food, books are also near and dear to my heart. I always like to share what I’ve been reading because I love real person recommendations when it comes to what to read next.

Best Book of March – One True Loves

I’ve been on a Taylor Jenkins Reid kick in March. Over the last month, I’ve read two books by her, One True Loves and Malibu Rising. I liked both, but I’m still thinking about One True Loves, so it wins. Imagine being newly married and deeply in love only to lose your spouse. After years of healing, you fall in love again, only to find out that your spouse is actually alive. This is such an interesting, heartbreaking, and bittersweet concept and I really devoured her execution of it.

Not My Favorite – Less Reading

The good news this month on the book front is that I didn’t read any stinkers. The bad news is that I didn’t read as much as I usually do. I’m really making a concerted effort to read more in April!

Best Audiobook – The Boys in the Boat

It’s not often that my mom gives me a recommendation for a nonfiction book. She’s Nora Roberts’ biggest fan and sticks to romance novels almost exclusively. So when she suggested that I read The Boys in the Boat, I knew I had to put a hold on it on Libby. Guys, my mom was not wrong. This book tells such a great story about a rowing team from the University of Washington in the 1930s that achieved something no one thought they ever could – Olympic gold. It’s so well-written that I forgot it was a true story at times. If you want to lose yourself in an inspiring story, please give this a listen or read. I loved the audio version because Edward Herrmann (Richard Gilmore from the Gilmore Girls) narrates it and it’s nice to hear his voice again.

TV

Where I slacked off in the reading category in March, TV was more prominent in my list of March things.

Sweet Magnolias

I first got into Netflix’s Sweet Magnolias after my second child was born. Seasons 1 and 2 were feeding session favorites in those blurry postpartum days. Even when I was back to normal for Season 3, I really enjoyed it, so I was excited when Season 4 was released in February and knew I would get through it so I could make Sweet Magnolias Season 4 my TV entry on my March Things 2025 post. Unfortunately, the magic of Seasons 1-3 wasn’t there for me in Season 4. In fact, they’ve ended Season 4 in a place that doesn’t necessarily make Season 5 a foregone conclusion. Now, I’m not saying that this is a bad show at all. It was still entertaining, just not as entertaining as the previous seasons.

Clothes

Shocking no one more than myself, I’m enjoying the research and writing process for fashion-related posts. Is fashion really one of my March Things? I think so!

Cropped Jeans

The weather has really shown signs of turning this month, and I am here for it. That means I’ve mostly turned from my Winter mom uniform to my Spring mom uniform. The centerpiece of my Spring mom uniform is cropped jeans. They’re perfect for this time of the year when it’s chilly in the mornings and evenings but warms up nicely when the sun is shining. I’ve been essentially living in my Kensie Mila jeans. They’re so good! I found mine at TJ Maxx, so happy treasure hunting!

Top – beach lunch lounge Darby shirt

The other staple in my Spring mom uniform is a better than basic shirt. For me, this usually means a short sleeve button-front shirt. I have a ton of different short sleeve button-front shirts in solid colors and patterns galore, but I most often reach for my striped Darby shirts from beach lunch lounge. It is my perfect shirt. It looks great with cropped jeans and shorts of basically any color or style. The price tag is a bit heftier than I normally pay, but it’s worth it.

Accessory – Invisibobble Hair Ties

When the weather warms up, my hair goes up with it. I’m going to blame growing up in Florida for my inability to keep my hair down when the temperature is above 70°F. I was traumatized by heat and humidity. Because I have to get my hair off my neck at the first sign of warmth, I’ve tried a lot of different hair ties. My favorites have been the Invisibobble brand hair ties that look like old school telephone cords for a few years now. They hold my hair tight (but not too tight), they don’t cause a crazy dent, and they don’t immediately stretch out and become useless. If you struggle with hair ties, give these a try.

Products

What’s a list of March things without some products that are saving my life? Incomplete.

Spray bottles

I have a weird number of small spray bottles from The Dollar Tree. But, they aren’t just sitting empty in my cabinets. I use these things for everything! Each of my kids has a designated spray bottle for cleaning tasks, and both my daughter and I have a spray bottle for hair refreshing purposes. You can also use them to keep cats off kitchen counters, homemade window cleaner, and add the perfect amount of moisture when reheating those dreaded leftovers in the microwave.

Cleansing balm

If you had a chance to read my post detailing my Spring and Summer skincare routine, you’ll know that I have found a new holy grail skincare product – Beauty of Joseon Radiance Cleansing Balm. It is by far the best first cleanser I’ve ever tried. It’s a great texture, a gentle formula, and even comes with a scooper for less mess. If you’re looking for a new first cleanser, I highly recommend this one!

Slow cooker

On my husband’s list of March things was a weirder than normal work schedule, so that meant I relied heavily on my slow cooker in March. It’s a great tool to have when you have lots going on in the evenings and it’s hard to find time to prep and cook dinner right before dinner is served. I love my Hamilton Beach Programmable 6-qt Slow Cooker. It automatically switches to warm when the cook time is over, so I’m never left with burnt food. If you’re interested in knowing my favorite slow cooker recipes, let me know and I’ll start working on a helpful post!

Experiences

As usual, my true favorite March things were experiences. Even though you can’t directly replicate these, I’d love to share them with you anyway.

Playground

My theme for this month is definitely the weather getting warmer, and my first experience to share fits the theme to a tee. We have been hitting up the playground on the way home from school a lot this month, and my kids are here for it. And to be honest, I’m here for it too. There’s not much I love more than seeing my kids fully enjoying themselves, which happens at the playground more than anywhere else I take them.

Zoo

We took our first trip of the year to the zoo in March, and man is a trip to the zoo a complicated thing. My mama heart feels bad for the animals stuck in small spaces, but it also soars watching my kids fall in love with animals. This trip came a little too early in the month (it was cold and snowing), so we spent quite a bit of time in the Aquarium. Both of my kids have talked about the aquatic life they saw all month, and my 5-year-old has drawn everything from penguins to eels from the big tank on any scrap of paper he can find.

Kid Stuff

As always, I saved the kid-related March things for last. If you don’t have small kids, feel free to skip this section.

Fairy Tales Rosemary Repel Conditioning Spray

There were two separate head lice scares at my kids’ school this month. And if you’ve ever had head lice or a kid who has had head lice, you know that scare is the correct word to use here. Because I was terrified sending my kids to school with head lice running around, I had to find something to lower my anxiety. Enter Fairy Tales Rosemary Repel Conditioning Spray. This is a spray that contains a bunch of essential oils that head lice allegedly don’t like the smell of. It has become my family’s signature scent. We have avoided the head lice so far, so I’ll continue to spray everyone down with it every morning.

Magic Tree House Books

My 5-year-old son is very close to being able to read on his own. Of course, I’ve been working on sight words and literacy at home, but I can guarantee that the single most important thing that has lead him here is the Magic Tree House book series. A few months ago, one of his teachers started the Magic Tree House book series as a read aloud activity. Thank you, Ms. Maureen, for this idea. My son is hooked not only on reading, but on the history and myths underlying the books they’ve read so far. He’s now an expert on Mount Vesuvius and Morgan le Fay. We are now trying out other early reader chapter books that we can read through at home, and you know I’ll report back on the winners.

Bigger water bottles

I can’t be the only mom who fills up her kids’ water bottles approximately every hour and is annoyed by it. This month, I decided to try bigger water bottles, and it has already been life changing. I’m free! If you find yourself refilling your kids’ water bottles too many times a day, give the bigger water bottles a shot and enjoy your coffee before it gets cold.
